クリニックを作るにあたって、出来るだけ敷地に植物を植えたいと思っていました。設計士さんとも相談して、土のスペースを多くとって頂きました。好きな植物は多いですが、なかでもオリーブは昔から好きな植物のひとつです。小さな独特な葉っぱの形、色がいいですし、常緑なのも魅力の一つで、ぜひクリニックに植えたいと、いろいろさがしましたが、なかなか大きなものは見つからずにいました。
岡山県の牛窓町はオリーブで有名です。昨年の夏、牛窓町を車で走っていたところ道端にオリーブ販売の看板を見つけました。看板に書いてある携帯番号に半信半疑で電話をしたところ、山の中にある大きなオリーブ畑に案内され多くの立派なオリーブを得ることが出来ました。クリニックには13本の牛窓のオリーブが植えてあります。
もうひとつ紹介します。シダ植物も好きで、いろいろ大型のシダを植えてきましたが、なかなかうまくいきませんでした。今回クリニックに植えてある黒い支柱のような棒は、Dicksonia antarcticaというオーストラリアのシダ植物です。ただの棒ではありません。葉っぱが出ることを首を長くして待ってます。
